Remoteli was founded with a mission to create one million employment opportunities across Africa. We have not reached it. We say so plainly because a mission is only useful if it stays honest about the distance still to travel.

This piece explains why the mission exists, where we are today, and why we believe the Remoteli Talent Network, not staffing alone, is how it can be reached.

Talent Is Everywhere. Opportunity Isn't.

Around the world, businesses struggle to find the people and skills they need. At the same time, Africa's working-age population is projected by the UN Economic Commission for Africa (opens in a new tab) to grow from 883 million in 2024 to 1.6 billion by 2050, and many of its skilled professionals remain cut off from international opportunity.

The problem isn't a lack of talent. It's access, visibility and connection. A capable finance professional in Accra or a software engineer in Nairobi can do excellent work for a company in London or Toronto. What is often missing is the route between them: being seen, being trusted and having the contracts, payments and support that make the arrangement work for both sides.

Remoteli exists to build that route. For the data behind the workforce story, read what global employers should know about Africa's growing workforce.

Why Employment, and Why at Scale

The impact of employment isn't limited to a single role. A good opportunity brings income, but it also builds experience, skills, confidence and visibility, which lead to more opportunity. Each successful placement also strengthens the case for companies around the world to look to Africa for talent.

That is why the mission is framed around opportunities rather than placements or headcount. One person's first international role can be the start of a career that opens doors for others.

It also shapes how we work with employers. Remoteli connects strong businesses with strong professionals. The professionals in our network are skilled people building careers, and the businesses that hire them gain dedicated, full-time team members. When both sides do well, the case for the next opportunity makes itself.

Where We Are Today

We are ambitious about where we are going, but impact should be measured by what actually happens, not by projections presented as achievements. So here is where we stand. The Remoteli Talent Network has more than 40,000 members. We work across eight core African talent markets. And every business we work with gains a dedicated, full-time professional, which means every engagement is a real role for a skilled person.

Staffing proved the model. Businesses tell Remoteli what they need, choose from a shortlist and build teams that work, while Remoteli engages the professionals as contractors and manages recruitment, onboarding and ongoing operational support. Each of those engagements is an opportunity created, and the basis for the next. Employers can see how it works in the Solution Builder.

The Talent Network Is the Engine

Staffing alone would take a very long time to reach one million. The Talent Network gives us a path to pursue the mission at a completely different scale.

The Talent Network isn't simply a database of CVs. It is the foundation of an ecosystem designed to make African talent easier to discover, develop and connect with opportunity. Members build a professional profile, become visible to employers and can be considered for roles that match their skills and ambitions. Our long-term ambition is a network representing millions of professionals across countries, industries, skills and experience levels.

The ecosystem is being built in stages, and we are clear about which parts exist today:

  • Work Ready (live). Members demonstrate their equipment, workspace, connectivity and availability, and earn a trusted status that shows businesses they are ready to start working remotely.
  • Remoteli Academy (coming soon). A future learning and career-development layer that will connect skills development directly with employability and opportunity.
  • Community (coming soon). A future space for professionals to connect, learn from one another and take part in a wider African talent community.

Professionals can join through the Remoteli Talent Network today.

Africa First

Our journey starts by building deeper talent networks, stronger partnerships and greater access to opportunity across Africa. Today, Remoteli supports talent across eight core markets: Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Egypt, Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire. Our About page tells the story of how Remoteli started.

Expansion will be driven by talent quality, local partnerships and global employer demand, growing responsibly over time rather than adding markets for the sake of it.

It Takes More Than One Organisation

Building a stronger bridge between African talent and global opportunity takes talent, partners and employers. Universities, colleges, training providers, recruiters and professional communities all have a role. Our article on how universities and training providers can connect graduates with global employers explores what that looks like, and organisations interested in working with us can start on our Partners page.

Africa has the talent. Together, we can create the opportunity. See how the pieces fit on our Impact page.
